  • 1 lb ground beef 85–90% lean
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Creamy Layer
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • or cream of chicken
  • Cheese
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Topping
  • 1 32 oz bag frozen tater tots
  • Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 cup frozen corn or peas
  • Cooked bacon crumbles
  • Chopped green onions

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Cook the beef
  4. Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Drain excess grease.
  5. Add creamy base
  6. Stir cream of mushroom soup into the beef until evenly combined.
  7. Assemble casserole
  8. Spread beef mixture evenly into the baking dish. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  9. Add tater tots
  10. Arrange frozen tater tots evenly over the cheese layer.
  11. Bake
  12. Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, until tater tots are golden and crispy.
  13. Serve
  14. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
