Ingredients
  

  • For the Bulgogi Marinade
  • lbs thinly sliced beef ribeye, sirloin, or chuck
  • cup soy sauce low-sodium preferred
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated pear or apple optional but traditional
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • For Cooking
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil if needed
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • For Serving Optional
  • Steamed rice
  • Sesame seeds
  • Lettuce leaves

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Beef
  2. Slice beef very thinly against the grain. Pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Make the Marinade
  4. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, grated pear or apple, and black pepper.
  5. Marinate
  6. Add beef to the marinade and toss until fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Heat the Pan
  8. Heat a large skillet or grill pan over high heat. Add oil if needed.
  9. Cook the Beef
  10. Add marinated beef in a single layer. Cook quickly, stirring occasionally, until browned, caramelized, and cooked through.
  11. Finish
  12. Add sliced onion and green onions during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Remove from heat and serve immediately.
