Ingredients
  

  • –2 lb smoked sausage bratwurst, or Italian sausage
  • cups barbecue sauce your favorite brand or homemade
  • 1 large onion thickly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste (optional)
  • Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey for extra sweetness
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Sliced bell peppers or jalapeños

Method
 

  1. Preheat Oven
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  3. Prepare Sausage
  4. Place sausages in the baking dish. Leave whole or cut into large pieces.
  5. Add Aromatics
  6. Scatter sliced onion and garlic over the sausages. Drizzle with olive oil or butter.
  7. Add BBQ Sauce
  8. Pour barbecue sauce evenly over everything. Sprinkle with black pepper and salt if needed.
  9. Bake Covered
  10. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes.
  11. Caramelize
  12. Remove foil, gently stir, and return to oven uncovered for 15–20 minutes until sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  13. Serve
  14. Rest 5 minutes before serving. Spoon extra sauce from the pan over the sausage.
